What actually changed on August 17, 2025

UER-II, the Urban Extension Road-II, opened to traffic that day. It’s a 75.7 km stretch running from Alipur on NH44 down to IGI Airport, feeding straight into the Dwarka Expressway.

For anyone driving down from Haryana on NH44, this matters a lot. You used to hit Delhi’s outer edge and then crawl. Bawana, Mundka, Najafgarh, every one of those stretches used to take 45 minutes on a good day and 90 minutes on a bad one. UER-II is a controlled-access road that skips most of that. NHAI and the transport ministry have both said it cuts the last stretch into Delhi by roughly an hour.

How long does the drive to Dwarka take now

Numbers, not vibes:

Murthal and Sonipat families are now genuinely under an hour from our studio. Panipat sits comfortably within 90 minutes. Karnal is the outer edge of a comfortable day trip, closer to 2 hours than 1, and we’d rather tell you that straight than have you plan around a number that doesn’t hold on a Friday evening.

Either way, this is a different trip than it was a year ago. What used to require a hotel booking now fits between breakfast and dinner.

Why a same-day shoot actually works now

A day trip only works if the math leaves room for the shoot itself, not just the driving.

Leave Karnal or Panipat by 8 or 8:30 AM and you’re at our Dwarka studio by 10 or 10:30. A maternity or family session runs about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Add lunch nearby, and you’re back on the road by 2 or 3 PM, home well before dinner and well before the evening traffic builds up again near the Delhi border.

Which shoot makes sense for your day trip

Maternity. The most forgiving option for a day trip. No feeding schedule to work around, no nap windows. Book between 28 and 34 weeks and you’ll have energy for the drive both ways. Details on outfits, styling, and timing are on our maternity photoshoot page.

Newborn (15-25 days). This one needs a real conversation, which we’ve laid out below.

Kids sessions. Flexible on timing, and honestly, the easiest booking for families who are already road-tripping for another reason (a wedding, a hospital visit, a family function in Delhi).

Newborn shoots and the drive: what we tell parents honestly

A newborn photoshoot has a tight window, usually 15 to 25 days old, and a long drive adds a variable most parents haven’t thought through yet.

Talk to your pediatrician before you book the date. Most healthy, full-term babies travel fine by car for an hour or two, but “most” isn’t “your baby,” and a pediatrician who’s actually examined your newborn is the only person qualified to say yes.

If your doctor gives the go-ahead, plan the trip for the calmer part of the window, closer to day 20 than day 15. Keep the car temperature steady, feed right before you leave, and build in a stop if the drive from Karnal runs past 90 minutes. Planning your day trip: the checklist

Book your slot with a buffer. Ask for a morning slot and confirm it a day before you drive down.

Pack outfits on hangers, not folded in a bag. Wrinkled fabric shows up in photos.

Carry feeding essentials, water, and snacks for the car, especially if you’ve got a toddler along.

Time your return for before 5 PM if you can. NH44 traffic near the Delhi-Haryana border still builds up in the evening, UER-II or not.

Keep your booking confirmation and a phone number for the studio saved somewhere you’ll actually find it, not buried in a WhatsApp thread from three weeks ago.

Since UER-II opened in August 2025, Sonipat and Murthal are roughly 45 minutes to an hour away, Panipat is about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours, and Karnal runs 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic near the Delhi border.

Do we need to stay overnight in Delhi for a shoot?

No. Most maternity, baby, and kids sessions run 1 to 2 hours. Leaving Karnal or Panipat by 8 or 8:30 AM gets you to the studio with time for the shoot, lunch, and a drive back before evening traffic.

Is it safe to bring a newborn on a 1-2 hour drive for a photoshoot?

Check with your pediatrician first. Most healthy full-term newborns handle short car rides fine, but every baby is different, and your doctor knows your baby’s specific situation better than any guide can.

Can you accommodate a same-day booking if we’re driving in from out of town?

Yes, and we recommend it. Tell us you’re coming from Karnal, Panipat, or nearby when you book so we can offer a morning slot and plan your session length around your drive.

Do you provide outfits, props, and makeup, or should we bring our own?
